VYNE Tapas Bar & Restaurant in Bonifacio Global City (BGC)

I was on the lookout for another gastronomic finds in the heart of Bonifacio Global City 'til I found Vyne Tapas Bar & Restaurant. The restaurant is also known as Vyne BGC for some residents of the city. It is a cityscape dining located at the 8th floor of one of the many W Building in Bonifacio Global City.

The place.
Upon entering the lobby of W Global Center Building, I was greeted by this sign from Vyne BGC! Holla! The building really boasts cool design inside that made me more interested to see what's in Vyne. You may check Vyne's facebook page to find out how cool their design is.

Welcome to VYNE BGC!

Dems of geekykitch.com introducing herself to fellow bloggers.

John Paul Enriquez, Owner of Vyne Tapas Bar & Restaurant

The event started with the introduction of the Zomans, Zomato people, the executive chefs of the restaurant and the owner of Vyne BGC. After that, the courses have been served to our tables and they looked awfully awesome.

The food.
Vyne Tapas Bar and Restaurant offers new twist on fusion cuisines. They have a lots of reinventions to conventional cuisines we commonly eat here in the country and also, Vyne offer a wide range of imported wines. So check it out!

Pork Chasu Bun - Php 295

Pork Chasu Bun is composed of fried quail egg, fried mantao, nori strips, leeks, sesame mayo and of course the pork chasu. The pork is very tender and so tasty and it blended well with other ingredients. I think this is more delicious than Tim Ho Wan's pork buns.

Thai Scallops -  Php 300

Thai Scallops are seared scallops and crispy catfish with mango salad in Nuoc Cham dressing and Sambal Mayo. At first thought, this dish priced at Php 300 is quite not good for average earners but when I tried tasting it, I was entirely bedazzled. The presentation is good for me and tasted like a dish from the heavens.

Mini Crab Cakes -  Php 380

Mini Crab Cakes is topped with mayo, pickled radish, arugula and caviar. I know you will be reading a lot of arugula in their menu and mind you, arugula is quite expensive. The crab cakes actually tasted just average in my palate but it's good though.

Prawn and Ravioli Laksa - Php 270

Prawn and Ravioli Laksa is served with tofu, fried onions, and bean sprouts. One thing I noticed is that the Laksa soup really has a kick and if you got a low tolerance of spicy foods, this might knock you down. In my case, I just love its spiciness. I was actually sweating after finishing this dish.

Apple and Bleu Cheese Salad - Php 285

Apple and Bleu Cheese Salad is composed of green apple, bleu cheese, cranberry, honey yogurt dressing garnished with arugula. Cheese is love. Some people do not like bleu cheese because of its bittery and salty taste. I don't care, it's cheese and I love it. Lol! Priced at 285, because the cheese and creams are quite pricey also.

East Asian Salad - Php 370

East Asian Salad is composed of mixed green salad, asian slaw, kimchi, korean rice cake, salmon floss and sesame dressing. I think Vyne BGC is really doing a lot of fusion cuisines, huh? I just love the incorporation of the green veggies with kimchi and the sesame dressing. It is not everyday that we get to taste a kind of salad like this one.

Ramen Carbonara - Php 350

Ramen Carbonara which is composed of miso cream carbonara, smoke pork, ramen broth and sousvide quail egg topped with caviar tastes awesome. This is one of my favorite dish from Vyne. Japanese and Italian fusion it is. At Php 350, I guess this one is a good deal.

Vyne Burger - Php 550

Vyne Burger is 200g of beef pattie topped with Mushroom ragout, foie gras, bleu cheese and apricot jam in a brioche bun. My love for cheese also equates my love for burgers. For Vyne burger, I guess the price just peak a little as compared with other burgers but rest assured for this, the ingredients are of A class as compared with others. Tastes good!!!

Pan Seared Sole - Php 420

Pan Seared Sole is composed of pan seared sole fish with parsley emulsion, saffron rissotto, mayo, sweet corn puree and roasted vegetables. Presentation is quite messy for me. Haha! The fish is flavorful and my favorite dip is the mayo which is very delighting.

US Angus Rib-eye Steak - Php 2500

US Angus Rib-eye Steak  is composed of 600g of Prime Rib Steak, Horseradish Gremolata, Beef Jus and Fried Brussels sprouts. There are actually 10 choices of dips that you may opt to dip your angus beef into. The beef, for me, is quite dry but it is tender. The serving is really big and I guess just right for its price of Php 2 500. Although there are some restaurants serving the same amount of Rib-eye Steak for a lower price.

Lemon Cheesecake (Citrus & Basil) - Php 360

Lemon Cheesecake is composed of lemon custard, basil, chopped pistachio, lemon new york cheesecake and meringue. Need I say more? It is very pleasant to taste. I was able to afford great pleasure while enjoying this. Good job Vyne!

Lotsa wine!!

Verdict:
Vyne BGC, in my humble opinion, raise the standards of the "BGC experience" when it comes to gastronomic finds in the city. Another restaurant to watch out for!

Marikina City's Chevy Burger: Little Place. Big Taste.

Marikina City, a lush valley bounded by mountain ranges and separated by a river, is touted as the Shoe Capital of the Philippines. The title "Shoe Capital of the PH" was given to the city because of the huge number of footwear being produced and sold by the city in the past years. In fact, Marikina proved that they are the shoe capital when the city showed the public in their First Sapatero Festival the "World's Largest Pair of Shoes" and this has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Who would have known that this city will also be recognized in the food industry? There are lots of restos booming at the corners of the city and some of them were already featured in famous TV programs such as "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho" and Kris TV.

In my search for a good burger, I immediately went to Boyong's Burger in Calumpang, Marikina however the store was already closed. I was told that their business hours is until 10PM only. That was 10:30ish in the evening!! Not so far from Boyong's, I saw Chevy Burger. I wasn't sure if their burgers taste good or meh.

The place.

The place is really small.

History board

Slot machines in the counter

Ok. So for the place, I would rate it 5 out of 10. The place is so small that I can hardly breathe! I am afraid of closed area. But as per my interview to the owner of the food store, they have just re-started their business after its closure way back 90's. Forgiven, but I wish you'll expand the place and make it more cozy.

Selfie board

While waiting for my order, I found this on the corner. "i love, crave, like #chevyburger" Cool! I took a selfie and took more. Ha!

The Menu. Food.

Burger. Pasta. Winner!!!

Guilty as charged but yeeehesss, I love their menu. I just love pasta, burger and fries. Sinful food for people on diet. However that night, I didn't order pasta because I am craving for a delicious, juicy and sinful burger. I ordered Chick & Burger & Messy Melt & Supah Fries!

Chick & Burger -- P60

The patty is made of beef and is really juicy but not that tender. The chicken spread is the winner! I love their chicken spread that I want to order a bottle of it! The bun is not that soft but is tolerable. Basta winner si chicken spread! :)

Messy Melt -- P75

Sinful! Patty plus bacon? Come on!? This is also a must-try from Chevy Burger. The incorporation of the beef patty, bacon, cheese and mushroom makes it more bongga!! I feel like I am eating in a sosyal gourmet burger resto. The patty is so tender this time. But then again, the bun is not that soft.

Supah Fries -- P30

Just normal however if you will buy from Chevy Burger, you'll get 3x more fries than the fries from McDonald's.

Chevy Burger is located at 116-i JP Rizal Street Calumpang, Marikina City

Verdict.

Chevy Burger is a store to watch out for this year. Delicious burgers! Accommodating crew and owner! The next time I will eat here, I will make sure that I'll order their pasta and their other sandwiches. But I can't finish it all, so please come with me. Let's have a colab. LoL!

[Food Review] Wham Burgers -- Impeccably Delicious and Budget-Friendly

My diet program has gone a long way in making me half of my weight two years ago and I consider it as a sweet success for me because every effort has been spiced up with sacrifice of not eating too much food for humans.

I seriously love burgers and I just can't reject its intoxicating aroma to pass through my sense of smell. I just can't. Some say that burgers are unhealthy because it is just too oily and super fatty and so it triggered me to look for healthy burgers within the metro. To my luck, I found Wham Burgers in SM North EDSA The block.

Wham! Burgers' burgers were cooked in their grilling equipment that is a hybrid of electric and gas with pure charcoal on top. Cooking under the coals creates a savory, smoky flavor with an invitingly charred exterior. The texture of the patty is super juicy and is 1/3 pound and certified no extenders. I say it is healthy because the beef patty is 80-20 lean and fat and the serving comes with veggies also that balances it. I can easily burn that fat in 10-15 mins though. Lol!

I would also like to commend the presentation of their gourmet burgers. Where on Earth you could find an affordable gourmet burger that is very well-presented?

Double Whammy Burger with Cheese
This is a two 1/3 pound all beef, charcoal-grilled patties topped with ketchup, mustard, lettuce and tomato. I am not a fan of ketchup but I really appreciate its taste. Better than Zark's I should say.

Kapow
If you like your burger hot, then choose Kapow. This is Wham's signature patty topped with chili sauce, freshly made salsa, American cheese and jalapeno peppers. I felt like I was eating burrito with this burger. It really tastes good with the salsa and the cheese and the zesty tang of the jalapeno peppers. All blended very well. Best parnered with "Pina Colada" from Shang.

Brekkie
Need I say more? Taken from the name itself "Brekkie" which is the slang for breakfast. This brekkie burger is a breakfast in a bun. Wham's signature patty topped with bacon strips, fried egg and cheese. If you are on-the-go and no time to sit down and pig out, this is really for you. With just a bite on this brekkie, you'll gonna fall in love on it.

Sliders Trio
If your appetite is as big as mine then this is for you. The sliders trio is the biggest set you'll ever meet. Your Wham favorites --Wham Burger, Wham Burger with cheese and Bacon Burger-- in a three-piece slider package.

There are lots of other gourmet burgers to choose from in Wham! Burgers. They are also offering sausages, beverages and other side fingers foods. I got to try their poppers and their spaghetti fries.

Poppers & Spaghetti Fries

These poppers are really awesome. I am really a fan of cheese and I would say the combination of the peppery taste and the cheese is insane! I die! (HaHa, Lol!) This is a must-try and DT will rate it 9.5/10!! Insane! Regarding the spaghetti fries, which is also one of my favorites in Wham, I just love the incorporation of the spaghetti sauce and the fries as the pasta. Very European.

Please check their menu on my previous post. Wham! Burger

Wham Burgers is located at five branches including its first-ever Katipunan QC, followed by Shangri-La Edsa Plaza, Robinsons Midtown Mall, SM North Edsa The Block, Molito Alabang and Mall of Asia.

Affordable Awesome Burger at Wham Burgers

When it comes to burger, most people would think about it as a comforting meal and perhaps the safest choice when craving for something fast yet satisfying. However, many will agree that not all burgers are  created the same,  purveyors can be partial over a tried and tested recipe with American appeal coupled with an awesome classic taste that stands out.

Back in 2000, there weren’t really too much options for something one may call an affordable legendary burger—one is left with a choice of either having a basic burger in a fast food or very expensive hotels for something fancy. This was then the beginning for good friends Tony Yap and Dondi Lazaro to profusely experiment for their own concoction, particularly Dondi who is a graduate of HRA at University of the Philippines. After several trials, all signs point to build their own burger brand especially when both of their friends and families gave their seal of approval with their unique recipe discovery.

Although the evolution of gourmet burger didn’t happen overnight, there was surely a good market for foodies who has grown weary of the typical offerings and go beyond the usual flavors but still affordable. Now, food lovers in the Philippines have long known that good quality burger is a must-have item in a casual-style restaurant.

Wham was near an instant hit in its first Quezon City branch for capturing the elements of what an outstanding burger should be: huge, hearty, and tucked with impeccably good beef. Celebrated for its never frozen patty perfection, the secret is also in its grilling equipment—a hybrid of electric and gas with pure charcoal on top. Cooking under the coals not only creates a savory, smoky flavor with an invitingly charred exterior, it rounds out an incomparable juicy texture in its strictly one third pound, certified no extender robust beef with 80-20 lean and fat. With its no short cuts, homemade-style formula that’s far from a typical fast food style or too expensive hotel burger, Wham is a bold version that sums up to affordable gourmet quality burger.

Prides itself for introducing a 100% Filipino burger brand with outstanding product and service, most people perceive that Wham is an international franchise. “The initial simplicity of the food  and items inspired from my international travels very much worked. Along the way, we had to adapt to Filipino taste, like adding Spaghetti in the menu because kids loved it and wouldn’t eat anything else. And the major draw about our burger is how we cook our patty. We use the old-fashioned real charcoals”, Tony shares. While its standard speaks for the quality of the ingredients, Wham defied all expectations by introducing something far from a mundane category.

With no bells and whistles or complicated ingredients such as MSG, Wham Burgers remain on top of mind when questing for an affordable quality burger with real beef that one can taste. Another factor that gives this classic favorite a breed apart? Side choices such as potato or bite-sized chicken are satisfying and as flavorful as the mains which amps up the burger eating experience.
